This turmeric originates from the Kandhamal region of Odisha, known for its rich soil, natural rainfall, and ideal climate for turmeric cultivation. The crop is grown in small farm plots close to forest ecosystems, without intensive chemical farming.


Produced by tribal women farmers and SHG groups under the Phulbani Kasam collective.


Phulbani Kasam works with local tribal farmers and women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) who cultivate, harvest, and process turmeric as a community activity. These groups follow traditional knowledge passed down through generations, ensuring fair livelihoods and local value addition.

Hand-processed using traditional drying and stone-pounding methods.

After harvesting, turmeric rhizomes are cleaned, naturally dried, and then hand-pounded or ground using traditional tools. This slow, manual process avoids overheating, helping retain the turmeric’s natural color, aroma, and character.
